Sadly however, 99% of authors never generate enough sales make it on these lists both because it’s extremely difficult and much more complicated logistically than they realize. While every author dreams of a bestseller, nobody has a real plan to actually pull it off.
And that’s a major problem because, as Robert Kiyosaki once accurately captured:
Most authors assume their publisher, marketing consultant, or publicist will help them sell books, only to realize after it’s too late that they vastly overestimated the likelihood of that happening.
It’s unfortunately way too easy for authors to spend lots of time and money on marketing, advertising, and publicity. Those activities have other benefits to your business and can help create book sales slowly over time, but authors are often wildly mistakenen in thinking that that those activities will equate to thousands of many immediate book sales.
It’s no wonder so many authors become frustrated — they have no clear plan for getting people to buy their books. So they spin their wheels, spending gross amounts of time and money doing things that create general awareness but fail to move many copies.
Their books never become bestsellers, and they don’t get the speaking engagements, consulting clients, or media attention they were seeking.
Worst of all, they don’t make the life-changing, legacy-building impact they originally set out to make when they first had the dream of writing a book. It is absolutely heartbreaking to think about all of the incredible books that have been published but never sold more than a couple thousand copies because they didn’t have the right plan. Plus, after hearing horror stories from other people who have been through it, many authors die with books inside of them because they don’t even want to attempt the journey.
Before I became a New York Times bestselling author and Hall of Fame speaker, I remember EXACTLY what it felt like to be a first-time author. I had zero idea what was required to get a New York Times bestseller badge on my book. And honestly, nobody else seemed to have many actionable proven strategies for how to sell a lot of books either.
I lived with a fantasy that I would write a great book and it would magically take off on its own. Not only did I find out my fantasy was false for myself – and every author who has ever written a book – I also discovered, after spending tens of thousands of dollars, that there was no shortage of people willing to take my money in exchange for lousy, ultimately ineffective book launch “strategies.”
Fortunately, my wife and I did know something about sales and we pulled off what everyone said was impossible. I became a New York Times bestselling author when I was just 29 years old with my very first book, Take the Stairs: 7 Steps to Achieving True Success.
There are a countless number of logistical landmines and technicalities that must be navigated on the front end of when, how, and where you publish your book for it to even be bestseller list eligible (FYI, most authors have no clue how important or difficult this is and thus their bestseller hopes are dashed before they even begin the journey).
You have to craft a plan of offering your readers (meaningful) additional tools and resources that give them extra reasons to buy your book precisely when you need them to buy it so that it counts towards bestseller list recognition.
We have found there are only 7 primary mechanisms an author needs to actually sell books and yet almost every author is barely doing 1 of them at best! Thus, you need to start as early as possible preceding your publishing date to learn these methods and then have time to build out as many of them as you can before your pub date arrives.
Selling a high enough quantity of books is only half the battle to becoming a bestseller, as an entirely separate strategy is needed to make sure all of your sales “count” and are actually properly reported to bestseller list publications. The “Bad news” is that we don’t allow our clients to buy massive quantities of their own books to try and cheat the bestseller lists. The most common way to work with me is to just come in-person for 2 days. You may not know this, but often the biggest book launches are planned 1–2 entire years in advance of the publication date! If that is a possibility, then do it now as it will increase your results the longer the runway you have.
Now with Ed Mylett, we helped him pre-sell 117,000 copies of his book and we only met him four months before his publication date. With Tom and Lisa Bilyeu, they hired us 13 days before their publication date and we increased their sales more than 33% of everything they had sold up until that point! So we can and regularly do see our clients move the needle quickly from what they learn from us — but more time is better for everyone.
Most people come to Book Launch Mastery between 3 and 9 months before their publication date. If someone comes more than 1 year before their publication date, we will often let them get a deep discounted virtual ticket to do another refresher as it gets closer.

No, you definitely don’t! In our experience, even millions of followers or impressions on social media often only equates to a few hundred sales. And get this: we had a client with over 5 million followers who hired us but then afterwards didn’t use any of our strategies because they thought it would be easier to just do posts on social media. He was outsold by another one of our clients who had fewer than 1,000 followers but who followed our exact model and methodology! The mainstream celebrity did not hit any of the bestseller lists, but our client – with 5,000 x fewer followers – actually did! And that trend continued because a year later, our author with the small following had still sold more copies of their book than the celebrity!

It’s also not mandatory or necessary that you have our team build out the digital funnel that we recommend. Many of our sales strategies are about utilizing offline relationships.
No, you are not. And it’s really important that you know this up front. The reason we can’t guarantee you’ll hit the bestseller lists is because we don’t manipulate rankings, use fake customers, automated bots, or have any type of attempted back door relationships with the bestseller list publications. And remember, we’re also not teaching you to just buy massive quantities of your own books to try and game the lists. So neither you nor us know how many books you will actually sell at the end of the day.
What we are confident about is that if you follow our system and actually do the things that we teach you, you are likely to sell thousands more copies than you would if you tried doing this alone. Plus, you will have real people buying it and reading your book. Our system is not easy; but it works if you do the work of learning it and following it.
One of our favorite BBG mantras is that “bestseller lists don’t change lives; but books do!” At the end of the day, it’s not just hitting a bestseller list that will make or break your career. It’s doing the real work required to get real people to read your book! That is how you build a true brand and that is how you also change lives. (In case you didn’t know, having ten thousand copies of your own book in a warehouse doesn’t actually change lives or build your brand.)
That said, remember that we have helped more than 60 clients hit national bestseller lists. We’ve also had as many as 12 clients hit the New York Times bestseller list in a 15-month period! We have more bestseller hits every year than even most major publishing companies do! And (knock on wood) to date, we’ve never had an author who hit the required averages of sales not hit at least one of the major bestseller lists!

So while we cannot “guarantee” you’ll hit one of the coveted bestseller lists, we can assure you that we have one of the best track records in the history of the industry on generating legitimate book sales.
Nope. That’s totally up to you. We offer the service for “free” (as long as you collect full cover price +$4/S&H) because it’s a MASSIVE problem our entire community – and really our entire industry – needs help doing in a professional way. And what we started doing on the side for friends has become a full scaled operation that we are really efficient and effective at.
But sometimes authors either don’t care about the bestseller lists or don’t plan on trying to sell in many bulk quantities. That’s totally fine. You don’t have to use us and that is one of the reasons that we don’t have any required minimums or guaranteed commitments from you. We will help you whether you have 100 bulk sales or 100,000 and you only pay for exactly what you need.
Well, sort of. Brand Builders Group is a strategy firm. We do not offer PR as a service and you can never pay me for introductions to my network. So we never promise it and it is definitely not a part of our program formally whatsoever. But I will totally, happily, and gladly introduce you to anyone in my network under one condition: You have to be able to provide as much value to the person I’m introducing you to as they can to you.
This is actually a concept that we teach in one of our other BBG trainings on how to sell called “Pressure Free Persuasion.” Relationships are magical accelerants to everything. But for relationships to work they have to be mutually beneficial. So my network of my private clients may or may not be people who you can provide similar types of value exchange for – if you can then I might entertain it.
