Build Your Online Business

Thomas Dodson here. We’ve been talking about tangible things that you can do to start building your business online today. A couple of weeks ago, we were talking about creating content, creating valuable content that your followers, your fans, information that you have in your head that you need to get out onto video, onto paper to help people. We also talked about overcoming those objections that are holding you back from sharing that content.

 

Last Monday, we talked about platform paralysis. You remember that one. You know, it’s so overwhelming sometimes to look at all of the social media platforms and think, gosh, ‘I’m going to miss out if I don’t do all of these’. And we solved that problem. Then we talked about the importance of building an email list. And no, I know it sounds passe, but it is invaluable and your journey to build your business online.

And today, the last thing I want to share with you, and remember these are tangible things that I’ve learned over the last 10 plus years of helping individuals and businesses build a business online. These are things that you can be doing right now on quarantine to help set yourself apart for when things go back to normal or to build your business completely online to make that transition. These are just the low hanging fruit things that I’ve seen time and time again that are helping people and holding them back simultaneously.

 

I want to leave you with this week is the importance of a posting schedule, a content schedule. It really is the accountability piece that most people overlook. And it doesn’t really matter when you’re starting out, how often, how frequently you’re trying to post, but find a rhythm that works and stick with it.

 

Whether that’s posting something to your blog every Tuesday and Thursday at 8:00 AM, whether that’s posting a new video to Instagram every Sunday and Wednesday at 4:00 PM. Whether that’s going live on Facebook every Monday and Thursday at 8:00 PM it doesn’t matter. Pick a schedule that works for you.

 

It’s going to do a couple of things for you. It’s going to hold you accountable. You’re going to see it on your calendar, you’re going to go, ‘Oh man, I need to get on top of this. This is my job now. This is what I need to do’.

 

It’s also going to set the stage for your followers. They’re going to come to expect that over time you’re going to train them and condition them to say, Hey, I can expect quality content from this person at this time, on this day, on this platform. They’ve been providing it for weeks. Now I’m going to keep coming back and they’re going to keep finding you and they’re going to share your stories and it’s going to grow exponentially.

Obviously there are a lot more things that I could share with you, but I wanted to just help you start and whether that’s something you’ve never really thought about, whether it’s something that you’ve been thinking about for a while of how do I get my business from the offline world to the online world, or how do I create a hybrid business? There are so many ways to do that.

 

I’ve been doing this for quite a while and I’ve made every mistake possible. I’ve seen every mistake made and I can really use that experience. I’m trying to use that experience this week to help you overcome some of those simple self objections that we have and really lay the foundation for building that business online.
